The Customs Platform: a new initiative in the relations between trade and industry and public bodies

In 1999, the Customs Platform as International Association was founded at the initiative of a number of multinational companies. Drawing from their experience and understanding of technical matters, these international companies wanted to become more closely involved in the creation of new customs law and implementing provisions that would meet the specific needs of international trade and industry while taking into account the controlling needs of the authorities.

The main objective of the Customs Platform is two-fold:

1. to anticipate a new legislation and regulations by examining working documents and drafts of customs law, while keeping an eye on the practical effects of the planned measures that would affect international trade and industry.

2. to develop specific and detailed proposals that should lead to uniform solutions at EU level to current problems that the economic operators are faced with.

In principle, the Customs Platform Association limits its activities to the customs sector, but this does not mean that other, related tax aspects are excluded.

As a technique-driven international association, the Customs Platform is open for consultation and cooperation with all other consultative bodies and professional international organisations that play an essential role in the communication between the European authorities and trade and industry. The Customs Platform welcomes all international companies that, drawing from their customs-related technical knowledge and experience, wish to make constructive contribution to achieve its objectives
